Are Facebook and Instagram Down? What to Know
Users are reporting problems with the Meta social media apps.



Users of some of the most popular social media apps reported widespread issues Friday morning. The problems included Facebook, Instagram and Facebook Messenger, all of which are owned by Meta.
Downdetector showed more than 80,000 reports of issues with Facebook around 10:15 a.m. ET Friday. Downdetector and CNET are both owned by the same parent company, Ziff Davis.
CNET has reached out to Meta for details.

Facebook stories is down on the mobile app for me

The mesage asks me to try again, but doesn't refresh when I do. Here's what you might see on your app.

I've also been able to see messages in Messenger, although they've been slow to load.
We've seen a massive, sudden spike in outage reports across the platforms where users can say they're experiencing issues. The traffic seems to be causing issues even for those sites.
NordVPN shows thousands of users with outages

The VPN provider NordVPN lets you report outages by clicking the Report button on its page. NordVPN reports that between 9:30 a.m and 10 a.m. ET, 27,649 users reported Facebook being down. No users reported an outage on Friday morning prior to that.
