Dehradun: Homes damaged, cars swept away as rains flood India's Uttarakhand

Heavy rains have caused devastation in the northern Indian state of Uttarakhand. Homes were damaged and cars swept away as floodwaters entered several towns and cities in the region. There are no reports of any fatalities yet.

The nearby state of Himachal Pradesh was also hit by intense rains, with at least three people reportedly killed in a landslide on Tuesday morning.

The weather department has issued a heavy rainfall alert for the region, as rescue officials continue to evacuate people from the affected areas.

Hundreds of people have been killed in rain-related incidents this year. India regularly witnesses severe floods during the monsoon season, which runs between June and September, but officials say the intensity of rains this season has been significantly higher.
