Samsung is bringing plenty of new features to its Galaxy S26 Ultra, but there's one in particular that I'm excited about. 

Samsung debuted the S26 Ultra, along with the baseline S26 and S26 Plus, at its Galaxy Unpacked keynote on Wednesday. Plenty of new features caught my attention. I liked the Privacy Display, which stops others from seeing what's on your phone screen, and conversational photo editing. But there's one feature that I'm glad Samsung is finally stepping up: Its cooling tech on the S26 Ultra, so you can ideally use your phone comfortably for longer.  

So gamers and videographers, rejoice. You may be able to actually play a game or take a video without worrying about your phone failing you midway through. Here's the 4-1-1. 

Introducing Galaxy S26 Ultra's redesigned vapor chamber 

Samsung says it redesigned the Vapor Chamber for the Galaxy S26 Ultra, which is designed to control and evenly distribute heat on electronic devices. Now, the Ultra's vapor chamber has thermal interface material that's on the sides of the processor, which is supposed to spread heat more efficiently, keep the device cool and keep temperatures consistent -- even when gaming and taking videos. For context, the Galaxy S26 Ultra is aluminum, too.

It's also welcoming news for the phone's battery life, since a hot phone can kill a battery quicker. And you may be able to worry less about a phone that's too hot to handle or turns off without warning. 

Apple introduced a cooler phone last year

Apple introduced similar cooling mechanisms last year with the iPhone 17 Pro by switching back to an aluminum phone, which vents heat better than the titanium the company used for years. The 17 Pro model also has a cooling vapor chamber.

To be clear, that doesn't mean Samsung's and Apple's top-level phones will never get warm. They'll just do a better job of distributing heat more evenly. So it may get a little warm, but it's a step toward better battery life and more use out of our phones.
