The battle to claim the iconic Claret Jug gets underway this weekend as the men's major season reaches its climax with The Open at Royal Birkdale in Merseyside, England.

Scottie Scheffler returns to defend the crown he took last year at Royal Portrush and become the first back-to-back winner of The Open since Padraig Harrington in 2008. The American star will need to make a big improvement on last weekend's showing, with the world No.1 surprisingly missing the cut at the Scottish Open.

Meanwhile, Masters champ Rory McIlroy and British star Tommy Fleetwood are heavily backed by the bookies to break the USA's grip on this tournament, with four of the last five winners having come from America.
